Ray Johnson: The Bob Boxes is the largest show of works from the archive of Ray Johnson in his hometown of Detroit since 1975. Johnson (1927-1995), who is often called "New York's most famous unknown artist", was a seminal Pop Art figure in the 1950s, an early conceptualist, and a pioneer of mail art. This exhibition includes boxes containing his correspondence with friend and artist, Robert Warner, as well as artwork, objects and materials that reference his childhood in Detroit. This exhibition is presented in honor of the late great Detroit collector, Gilbert B. Silverman (1925-2016), who was Johnson's friend.

Ray Johnson: The Bob Boxes is organized by the Ray Johnson Estate, Robert Warner and the Office of Exhibitions & Public Programs at the College for Creative Studies.
